Left: Autumn activities started with the annual scything of the meadow; all cuttings were raked into windrows; after the windrows were dried and removed, all leaf fall from the Garden's plane trees had to be raked up; the leaf rakings were added to the Garden's compost bins.

Left: Before seeds could be sown in the meadow, overly dominant species such as black horehound had to be dug out by hand; in December two of our CoL police horses helped us by trampling in the newly sown seed; elsewhere in the garden path maintenance was ongoing; DIY skills were put to use, laying paving slabs, rescued from elsewhere in the Barbican, to provide a path under the bird feeders.
